WHERE IS TORREVIEJA?
Torrevieja is a rapidly growing town on the Southern Costa Blanca coast of Spain and indeed the surrounding area has also grown rapidly with the building boom from the year 2000 to 2008 before the financial crash hit.
The huge amount of new developments were snapped up by many people from the United Kingdom and other Northern European countries. So in the Torrevieja area there are now many expatriates living there who speak either no Spanish or very limited Spanish.
This is great news if you’re looking for a job in the area because these expatriates or expats as they are commonly known prefer to deal with people in their native language.
They mistakenly believe that they can trust other people who are from United Kingdom although this is often the opposite case!
MoranISo if you are an English-speaker in Torrevieja you will find job opportunities in Spain despite your limited Spanish.
Torrevieja also has a major advantage in that it is a very popular tourist destination with excellent beaches and close proximity to major airports, so this opens up the possibility of many tourist related jobs in Torrevieja and makes for a great place if you are looking for summer jobs in Spain.
The major city Alicante is just 50 km to the north and the International El Altet airport in Alicante has flights arriving from all over Europe including many low-cost airlines so it is cheap to fly to Alicante and only about two hours flight time from the United Kingdom.
Torrevieja is approximately a 45 minute drive from Alicante airport and only a 20 minute drive from Murcia San Javier airport. This area also has a number of well-known golf courses such as La Finca golf course and Royal Campoamor golf club.
LIVING AND WORKING IN TORREVIEJA 2011 2012
When you are looking for jobs in Torrevieja you also need to consider other factors apart from things such as working conditions and rates of pay, such as:
Is this is the best area to move to in Spain?
What is the quality-of-life of living in Torrevieja?
What is the cost of living like in Torrevieja?
Just to give you our personal opinion, we believe that there are prettier areas of Spain, for example the Northern Costa Blanca is extremely green and mountainous with some very pretty little coastal towns which used to be small fishing villages. These towns such as Altea, Calpe, Moraira, Javea and Denia also have large expat populations and there are also good opportunities to find jobs, however nothing like as good as in Torrevieja.
Torrevieja is very built up with lots of housing developments and really very little Spanish culture, however, it is a very busy area with lots of bars, restaurants, pubs and excellent sandy beaches. It is also very close to the major airports which is very handy if you intend to fly back to the United Kingdom on a regular basis.
The best thing to do of course is to visit the area and maybe even take out a short term let to give yourself time to explore the local area and search for jobs.
Below is a map of Torrevieja:
TOURIST JOBS IN TORREVIEJA
As Torrevieja is a major tourist destination you will find many openings and and job vacancies in the catering trades such as for cooks, waiters, waitresses, dishwashers, bar jobs, barmen, bar maids, hotel jobs, drivers etc. Of course many of these jobs are seasonal in nature and are best for people searching for summer jobs in Torrevieja.
Unquestionably, bar jobs in Torrevieja are the most common type of job available.
The tourist season here runs from April through to the end of September. These jobs are very popular because only a limited knowledge of Spanish is all that is usually required. Unfortunately many of these jobs will be only available on a part-time basis.
Torrvieja’s popularity as a tourist destination also means there are transport related jobs such as driving jobs in Torrevieja i.e. coach driving jobs, van drivers and driving people to the airport and back as well as related driving jobs such as taxi jobs, HGV jobs, warehouse and logistics.

In this way you use your skills to find your own work and create your own job thereby not relying on anyone else.
In Spain this is known as becoming an ‘automono’ or you can set a company but be aware that you will need to pay high monthly compulsory social security contributions as well as VAT or IVA which is due from the first Euro and on every Euro you earn. The social security could be in excess of 200 Euros every month but it does give you and your family free access to the Spanish National Health Service.

hi im moving to torrevieja on the 25th of february this year so if any jobs are going i would like a good shot……im very confident and can do almost anything so i may be very useful… will be nice to hear back
Hello!
My name is Chris Andersen. I’m a 22 year old guy from Norway. And I am currently trying to find work abroad in Spain. I’m an educated industrial worker, this basically means that I can work in any factory that has to do with large quantities of production.
I have worked in large factories making beer, ice-cream and windmills. So I’m used to working with heavy machinery as well as mastering them.
I have previously worked in a kiosk, I’ve worked in a “supermercado” and I’ve worked in a paint-shop selling different brands of paint.
I am looking for any type of job I could get my hands on. That be in a bar as a bartender, in a restaurant as a waiter, in a “supermercado” as a salesman or in a factory. I would also like to work with children, that being in school teaching young Spaniards English, or working with smaller kids in kindergarten. I would also be interested in working with food as I have a passion for food and also went 1 year to chef’s school. That could be as a chef in a hotel or in a restaurant. I am basically willing to work with whatever I should get offered, as long as it’s a job I’m able to make enough money to cover my life costs with.
Depending on the job-offers I am able to join the position in May 2012. If the job should sponsor my flight costs I should be able to join straight away. By being sponsored, I would be able to join the position straight away and attend work as soon as I’m needed.
My best qualities would have to be that I’m patient, I’m a hard-worker, I learn really fast, I’m a competitive person, I’m good with children and I have the ability to make people feel comfortable around me.
In closing, I would like to add that I hope I’ll be getting an offer or more after reading this.
Best regards,
Chris Andersen.
